Aishwarya has branded herself as a demure, sensitive actress. From the candid naïve Nandini in Hum Dil Chuke Sanam to the dotting housewife in Guru, Aishwarya has managed each role with the same grace and finesse. Most memorable release: ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ was her biggest professional success and she even won the Filmfare for Best Actress.
Watch out for: Guzaarish: Bhansali’s magnum opus production where Aishwariya will act opposite Hritik Roshan. Action Replayy: Vipul Shah’s tribute to the 70’s, where she acts opposite Akshay Kumar.
Aishwarya was born to Krishnaraj Rai, a marine engineer and Vrinda Rai, a writer. She has an elder brother named Aditya Rai who is an engineer in the merchant navy. Born in Mangalore, her family moved to Mumbai shortly and she received her primary and secondary education at the Arya Vidya Mandir in Santa Cruz. She later attended Jai Hind College for one year after which she moved to Ruparel College in Matunga. Always bright throughout school and college, Rai aspired to become an architect some day. But these plans were put on hold when she won the title of Miss India World in 1994. Her film career began soon after this and she hasn’t looked back ever since.
Her failed relationship with Salman Khan was often brought to media attention. Aishwarya’s family had even lodged a police complaint against Khan for his abusive behavior.
